I havent found a place yet that will take them ....

Rec'd 2 of the Vanilla mastercard $ 25 gift cards about 2 years ago .... have tried using them online ...have tried using them at numerous restaurants .... and declined each time... For example i had a $49 bill at cheddar's restaurant tonite ... I gave the waiter one of the $25 gift cards and my visa credit card... I told him to please use the $25 gift card first and then rang up the balance on my visa credit card ... after many tries he came back to the table saying " sorry the vanilla mastercard gift card was declined" ... i am always with guests and this is so embarrassing ... i called and checked on the balance and am told they both have the $25 original balance on them and are validated and ready for use ... but when I try to use them they are declined ... What a joke !! plus you are charged a fee when you buy the cards ...

Card Activation Review

Same issue, the *** at the store didn't activate the card, got the same run around from the call center, send the receipt, copy of your license! Given the wrong email address, confirm they received the info a dozen times! Finally gave up and tossed out the *** $50 card, waste of time and money! Never again!

Vanilla Mastercard is a scam

I understand all your frustration. Yes it will take your money if not used- They state this in their clause- the person who purchased it should have read that- there are better ways to gift money. Second if you try to purchase something thats even a penny over the card limit, the card will be declined. So if your purchase is $5.10 and you have $5 on your card tell the cashier to charge $5 to the card and pay the differnce. I went online and typed in the card number it worked after finding the correct site and made sure there was no balance and cut the card up- YOU CANT RELOAD IT- UNLESS YOU PAY $5.95 to do so YEP THEY ARE SCAMMERS but in a differnt sense.. •You can use your Vanilla MasterCard® Gift Card immediately after purchase. •Know your card balance before you shop, as merchants cannot determine the balance on your card. If you try to purchase an item of greater value than your card balance, your card will be declined. •To purchase an item that costs more than the balance on your card you will need to use a second payment method, such as cash, check, or other credit or check card, for the difference. Let the cashier know how much you will pay with each type of payment when you make your purchase. Not all merchants accept split transactions. •At the time of purchase, give the card to the cashier and sign the receipt or push "credit" on the keypad. If you wish to use your card for a debit transaction, you will need to select a PIN of your choice for your Card. See the Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about selecting your PIN. •Write down your card number and keep it in a safe place. •If you forget your PIN, you may clear and reset your PIN on this website by logging in with your Card number and choosing "Manage PIN". •Remember to sign the back of your card. •Your Vanilla MasterCard Gift Card cannot be used to pay at the pump. In order to pay with you card, you will need to pay inside. •Please remember that when you are out for dinner and using your card at the restaurant that if the bill is for $50 they will process a request for $60 in anticipation of a 20% tip. Thus if you have a $50 card the purchase will be declined. •Your Vanilla MasterCard Gift Card does not have ATM access and you may not use your Card to get cash back at the point of sale. •It is recommended that you keep all receipts of purchases made with your Vanilla MasterCard Gift Card. •There are no cash refunds.

So how im I suppose to use my gift card?? I'm sure people are aware that they can't spend more than what the gift card has.

I have the balance of $25.00 I have been trying to put gas at sams club and even she'll gas station and nothing.

I registered the card even put a zip code LIKE IT TELLS U TO DO and still NOTHING. This is a terrible gift card.

Vanilla MasterCard should be another flavour entirely

Purchased this $50 card at Overwaitea Foods in 2012 as a gift-misplaced it and tried to use it in June 2014. After 7 months "People's" Bank charges $2.50/month in fees, so the net loss is $54.95 including the activation fee. Disgusting yet legal! I will never purchase any prepaid card again, and plan to distribute this info far and wide. This is just another type of service charge pillaging by banks and until people get vocal enough with their complaints, it will continue. Canada seems to be intent on catching up with the US in number of ways to fleece money from consumers that can often least afford it. I hope this saves someone their money!

All prepaid cards have monthly charges to keep them active in the system. Did you not read the terms and conditions, come on America.

Never buy Vanilla Mastercard

Never ever buy this credit card (Vanilla Mastercard) . I purchased a $100 card last week. When I was trying to use it I found out it was not working . I contacted Mastercard and I was told the card did not get activated at the time of purchase. The company received all the info from me including : Name, Home Address , Card Number, and of course a lot more information from my receipt ( spent 40 minutes on the call) . I was later told that I need to wait for 3-5 buisiness days so that they could investigate it. After 5 days, I called them back again inquiring about the status of my card . Guess what, I was told again that the investigation might take a couple of more days. So right now I am not sure how long I need to wait before this card gets activated if it ever gets activated.

Vanilla mastercard horrible

We brought this card paid 5.44 for it, loaded 50.00 on it. Christmas eve we gave our kids their presents, one of the 12 year olds at that. He was so excited, couldnt wait to check his balance, we checked of course no money. Called customer service, was told it was ready, well 8 days later, over 50 phone calls to customer service no luck, they give us so many different excuses i cant even type them all. We even asked for a new card, nope that is not possible either. Please everyone reading this dont buy the vanilla mastercard, one 12 year old crushed is enough.

Scam

my daughter is 13 and went on a school trip to DC. we bought these so she wouldn't have to carry cash. She tried to use the card at the DC zoo and it was rejected twice. I tried to call the 800 number and it put me on hold. after 45 minutes i have finally gotten someone and they have a BS excuse about there system is down and they can't access any information. I told the lady it was no acceptable that my daughter is without money on her trip. Now what. Where is the Vanilla customer service. Don't buy these cards for any reason they are a scam worse than the walmart cards that charge a 3.00 monthly fee. I should have paid the 3.00 fee and she could have been better off. Infact should have saved her 6.00 and sent her with cash. Don't buy these don't buy these don't buy these cards ever.

Adds unauthorized charges to restaurant purchases

Vanilla Gift Mastercard is a scam! Set up to frustrate you into leaving funds unused rather than fighting your way through to use the amount you purchased. They start with the always busy phone lines. This leads to the double talking customer service person. This person then tries to explain to you why they are holding an additional 20% of the restaurant charges in case there is a gratuity charge. This is the biggest scam in the gift card relm! How do legitimate retailers allow this company to function? Giving these as Christmas gifts to my grandchildren was a complete embarrassment.

I had problems accepting Vanilla Gift Mastercard in my Hair Salon. Everytime we ran the card thru, it was declined.

I found out that Vanilla charges a 20%, when used in restaurants, beauty salons & nail salons. In reality it seems its a scam.
